Verification of Lawful Presence in the United States

To be classified as in-state for tuition purposes, the Board of Regents of the University System of Georgia now requires all students admitted for Fall Semester 2011 and subsequent semesters to provide validation of lawful presence in the United States. The policy is listed at the bottom of this page.*

As an admitted student you MUST prove lawful presence in the United States in ONE of the following ways:

• An approved completed FAFSA for the 2011-2012 financial aid year. The Clayton State University school code for the FAFSA is 008976. Clayton State routinely checks admitted students through this process, and no additional action is required by the student.
   
• A current Driver's License issued by the State of Georgia after January 1, 2008. Only a notarized copy or a copy made by Clayton State staff is acceptable
• A current ID issued by the State of Georgia after January 1, 2008. Only a notarized copy or a copy made by Clayton State staff is acceptable
• A certified U.S. Birth Certificate showing the prospective student was born in the U.S. or a U.S. territory. A photocopy is not acceptable
• A current, valid Permanent Resident Card (USCIS form 1-151 or 1-551). Only a notarized copy or a copy made by Clayton State staff is acceptable
• A U.S. Certificate of Birth Abroad issued by the Department of State (DS-1350) or a Consular Report of Birth Abroad (FS-240) Only a notarized copy or a copy made by Clayton State staff is acceptable
• A current U.S. Passport. Only a notarized copy or a copy made by Clayton State staff is acceptable
• A U.S. Certificate of Citizenship (USCIS form N-560 or N-561). Only a notarized copy or a copy made by Clayton State staff is acceptable
• A U.S. Certificate of Naturalization (USCIS form N-550 or N-570). Only a notarized copy or a copy made by Clayton State staff is acceptable
  

Any student who cannot be verified through any of the above methods is not eligible to be considered for in-state tuition.

Positive verification does not necessarily warrant an in-state classification. In addition to being lawfully present in the United States, students must meet the in-state tuition requirements as outlined in BOR Policy 4.3.2.

*BOR Policy 4.3.4: Each University System institution shall verify the lawful presence in the United States of every successfully admitted person applying for resident tuition status (in-state tuition), as defined in section 7.3 of this Policy Manual, and of every person admitted to an institution referenced in Section 4.1.6 of this Policy Manual.
